Some people are born with enviable natural curves, and some people can attain them through exercise. But for some, neither genetics nor fitness will give them the perky, round butt they desire. If you have tried and failed in your attempts to achieve a better behind, New Jersey Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vasisht and South Shore Plastic Surgery can help.

What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lifts are the latest innovation in buttock augmentation (even though they’ve been around for over twenty years) and are rapidly gaining popularity. It used to be a procedure that was seldom performed. However, the increased focus on achieving a beautiful behind in recent years has caused a steep increase in the requested number of Brazilian Butt Lifts. In fact, in 2013, about 10,000 Brazilian Butt Lifts were performed, and by 2016, that figure doubled.

A Brazilian Butt Lift utilizes what is known as autologous fat transfer, or fat grafting. This technique uses your own fat cells to enhance your rear end, improving size and shape, addressing asymmetry or proportional issues, and lifting flat or sagging buttocks.

Why Do We Need Brazilian Butt Lifts?

As we age, our bodies go through a lot of changes. Even if it isn’t the aging process, weight fluctuation, pregnancy, lifestyle and a host of other factors can impact our physiques. Unfortunately, these changes are rarely viewed as positive.

Prior to Brazilian Butt Lift techniques, implants were the primary method, but it is difficult for implants to provide a natural look and feel. And if we consider that there is no other safe method of increasing shape and size, we understand that we need Brazilian Butt Lifts because there is no other option for people looking to avoid implants.

Luckily, Brazilian Butt Lifts have a long track record of providing beautiful results to patients all over the world. As trends toward big backsides continue, we can expect this procedure to only continue to grow in popularity and notoriety.

What Is the Difference Between a Brazilian Butt Lift and Buttock Implants?

There are several advantages to choosing a Brazilian butt lift over other forms of buttock augmentation that use artificial implants. While silicone implants can also offer increased size and a rounder shape, they also have a greater risk of complications, such as:

  • – Scarring from incisions
  • – Infection
  • – Rupturing or dislodging of the implant (both of which will require surgery to repair)
  • – Capsular contracture (build-up of scar tissue around the implant causing it to feel hard)

Dr. Vasisht prefers the Brazilian Butt Lift technique overusing implants, not only because the end result is a fuller, more contoured butt with a more natural look and feel, but because of the reduced chance of side effects and complications. Fat transfer also offers more lasting results and does not require further surgery.

Am I Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift offers a multitude of benefits, including:

  • – Increasing the fullness, roundness, and projection of your buttocks
  • – Improving the balance and proportion of your overall body shape
  • – Improving the appearance of cellulite
  • – Boosting sagging buttocks and restoring loss of volume
  • – Little to no scarring
  • – Enhancing your self-image and self-confidence

Anyone can benefit from a Brazilian Butt Lift, whether you’re in your 20s and are looking for dramatic curves or in your 40s and want to rejuvenate your behind. The ideal candidate for a Brazilian butt lift is in overall good health, has realistic expectations for their results, and has enough excess fat around the abdomen, flanks, and thighs to be harvested for the procedure.

Preparing for a Brazilian Butt Lift

Prior to your procedure, you will be given a list of preoperative instructions to follow in the days, weeks and months leading up to your Brazilian Butt Lift. These instructions often include details on how to alter medications to decrease the risk of complications during surgery.

Your surgeon will always consider your overall wellness and will never put you at risk simply to make the surgery safer. In difficult cases, we can work with your primary care physician to find the best path forward.

Recovery Station

We always tell our patients that they should create a recovery station well ahead of time so that they can focus on resting in those critical first days of their recovery period. Wherever you will be resting, make sure you have plenty of snacks, drinks, medications, electronics, magazines, books, chargers, remotes and anything else you think you may need in that time frame. This will ensure that your body spends its energy on healing and not walking around grabbing different items.

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

A Brazilian Butt Lift is an outpatient surgery performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. During the first step of the procedure, Dr. Vasisht will use suction-assisted liposuction to harvest fat cells from the areas of your body selected for extraction. Your buttocks will be the first area targeted for fat extraction to give them a more noticeable contour. Dr. Vasisht will then move on to the flanks, abdomen, or thighs to collect the remaining fat necessary for the procedure.

Once the liposuction is complete, the harvested fat is processed using a centrifuge. Dr. Vasisht only uses the best fat cells for re-injection, which in most cases is only about 25 percent of the extracted fat.

After the necessary amount of fat has been processed and purified, it is transferred into your buttocks via a series of small injections. These injections are placed subcutaneously (just under the skin) at various depths, avoiding muscles and blood vessels. It is extremely important that you choose a plastic surgeon who is experienced and skilled at this technique, as Dr. Vasisht is so that your procedure is safe and successful.

Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Hurt?

Immediately after your procedure, you will likely experience some minor pain, discomfort, swelling or bruising. Our patients regularly report that these symptoms are largely manageable with over-the-counter medications like acetaminophen. In cases where the pain levels are beyond what simple medications can mitigate, Dr. Vasisht can also provide prescription medications.

General anesthesia or IV sedation will prevent any pain or discomfort while the surgery is being performed. While the recovery can be a little tougher, many patients describe the entire process and minimally painful. They are often happy to go through the slight pain for the results it provides.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

You can be up and walking around within about two days following your procedure and can return to work and resume other normal activities within ten days to two weeks after your surgery. Patients are required to wear a protective garment after the procedure to help reduce swelling and ensure proper healing.

Dr. Vasisht will provide you with post-surgical instructions, and one of the things that he will stress during your recovery time is that you cannot put pressure directly on your buttocks for at least eight weeks after your procedure. This includes sitting as well as sleeping on your back. If you sit directly on your buttocks, you are reducing blood circulation to the area, which can destroy the transferred fat cells before they have a chance to stabilize.

Brazilian Butt Lift Results

You can expect to see a significant improvement in the size and shape of your derriere after going through Brazilian Butt Lift surgery. While the improvement to your butt will be drastic on its own, it will also help improve the contour and balance of your entire figure.

A larger butt means more defined hips against the waist, which can also mean a more natural hourglass figure as you move toward the chest. Increasing the butt profile can also better harmonize the thighs and legs.

How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

The results of a Brazilian Butt Lift are considered to be permanent. Your butt will always be larger and more defined than it would be if you had never had the procedure done, but it is important to remember that no procedure can prevent future changes from occurring.

For that reason, you may need to have a touch-up procedure done at some point if you have experienced drastic weight fluctuation or are hit hard by signs of aging.

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Dangerous?

Like any surgery, a Brazilian Butt Lift can pose certain health risks if performed by a surgeon who has not received proper training and education. One of the risks associated specifically with Brazilian Butt Lifts is the possibility of a pulmonary fat embolism — a condition that can become deadly.

The best way to prevent this from becoming an issue is to ensure your surgeon is highly trained and experienced in the procedure. Pulmonary fat embolisms occur when your surgeon injects the fat into the bloodstream, which means the cannula is in a position that it should not have been.

These types of cases are becoming increasingly rarer as surgeons perfect the techniques to the Brazilian Butt Lift and remain vigilant about the risks. Dr. Vasisht is acutely aware of the potential risks of the Brazilian Butt Lift and ensures all of his techniques minimize the chances of this or any complication from developing.

In short, Brazilian Butt Lift is safe when performed by a qualified, licensed and board-certified physician like Dr. Vasisht. You should never settle for anyone who does not have the same level of skill and experience.

Can I Combine My Brazilian Butt Lift with Other Procedures?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is often performed in conjunction with other aesthetic procedures. This is done for several reasons:

  1. Combining procedures reduces the overall price tag of your surgeries since you will only need to pay expenses like anesthesia and facility fees once.
  2. Combining procedures reduces the overall time that is required for recovery. If your Brazilian Butt Lift is healing at the same time as your breast augmentation, you are effectively condensing your recovery and the amount of time you have to be away from work or other obligations.
  3. Multiple procedures provide much more impactful final results. The sum of multiple body contouring procedures is greater than the sum of their parts.

Here is a list of procedures that are commonly performed alongside a Brazilian Butt Lift:

  • Body Lift — This procedure aims to raise sagging body contours around the abdomen, hips and butt areas.
  • Liposuction — This minimally invasive procedure can sculpt away fat and define contours throughout virtually every part of the body.
  • Mommy Makeover — This is technically a set of many procedures that look to reverse the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Breast Augmentation — This procedure increases the size of your bust, which can pair exceedingly well with your new and improved backside.
  • Breast Lift — In some cases, size and shape are less of a concern than the amount of tissue sagging. If your contour is being thrown off by breast skin ptosis, this is a great option.
