The dreaded double chin effect can take a toll on most anyone’s self-image. While a double chin may consist of excess fatty tissue, this is an area of fat that doesn’t always respond to healthy eating and regular exercise. While it may be an issue that adversely affects how you feel when you look in the mirror, a double chin isn’t something that was fixable without undergoing invasive surgery – until Kybella.
Kybella offers a new, FDA-approved treatment for removing this excess fatty tissue and restoring a sleeker, more sculpted jawline. Dr. Bhupesh Vasisht of South Shore Plastic Surgery is happy to offer this revolutionary treatment to his patients, including a free consultation so that you can be sure that Kybella is right for you. Keep reading to see how Kybella works.
What Causes a Double Chin?
While weight gain is often the culprit when it comes to developing a double chin, this is not always the case. A double chin consists of added layers of skin or fat that form beneath the chin, called the submental area, and the formation of a double chin can be affected by aging, weight gain and genetics.
As the body ages, skin begins to lose its elasticity. Loose skin tends to sag and create the appearance of a double chin. With weight gain, fat develops along the underside of the chin, which also creates the double chin effect. Even genetics can affect the submental area, if skin lacking in elasticity or a double chin runs in your family. Fortunately, advances in aesthetic science have made it possible to eliminate that double chin without surgery, using Kybella. Kybella is a new treatment that’s specifically designed to restore a sleeker, trimmer chin profile.
What Is Kybella?
The active ingredient in Kybella is a substance known as deoxycholic acid, something your body produces naturally. Deoxycholic acid works to destroy the membranes that encompass fat cells, killing them and leaving them to be metabolized and excreted by your body. Kybella is injected directly into the fatty area along the chin. Once the cells die off, the chin area can no longer store fatty deposits. This means the results of a Kybella treatment are permanent.
Prior to the development of Kybella, liposuction was the only way to eliminate excess fat under the chin. With Kybella, a simple injection provides the body with the material it needs to get rid of this problem area. Since no incisions are required, there’s no recovery or downtime involved. Anyone wanting to eliminate a double chin and restore a more youthful profile to their face can benefit from a Kybella treatment.
Is Kybella Right for Me?
If you’re a woman or man in New Jersey wanting to eliminate the appearance of a double chin, Kybella may be the solution you’ve been looking for. A good candidate for Kybella may experience one or more of the following:
• Fatty deposits under the chin make you look older or heavier than you really are
• Feeling self-conscious about your double chin
• Wanting to smooth and slim your double chin without surgery
Benefits of Kybella
A Non-Invasive Alternative
Compared to surgical procedures, Kybella offers New Jersey patients a non-invasive alternative to eliminating the appearance of a double chin. Besides the fact that there’s no cutting involved, non-invasive procedures don’t traumatize the body. Surgical procedures, such as neck lifts and facelifts, typically require time to heal and are best suited to address more severe cosmetic problems. Kybella specifically addresses a single concern: eliminating submental fat.
No Recovery Time
Since Kybella doesn’t traumatize the body in any way, there’s no recovery time involved. As a result, the risk of developing complications is minimal. With no recovery time needed, you won’t have to take time off from work or alter your usual daily activities.
A Natural Treatment Alternative
Kybella’s ability to provide the body with a naturally-occurring material to dissolve fat makes it one of the best treatments available. With Kybella’s active ingredient being something that’s already present in your body, there’s much less risk of developing an adverse reaction to the treatment. In a nutshell, Kybella produces the same results as more invasive procedures – without the risks.
What Should I Expect From My Kybella Procedure?
To begin the procedure, Dr. Vasisht will mark the injection sites in a grid pattern under your chin. A topical anesthetic or ice pack will then be applied to minimize any potential pain or discomfort. From there, Kybella is injected under the chin, taking anywhere from 20 to 30 minuscule injections using an ultra-small needle. On average, each session takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish.
The total number of injections needed will vary from person to person, as will the number of treatment sessions needed to produce optimal results. New Jersey Plastic Surgeon Dr. Vasisht will work with you to create a customized treatment plan according to your unique needs and goals. Kybella is typically administered in a series of one to six treatment sessions, with a month in between each treatment. Once the treatment is complete, you will start to see results over the course of the next few weeks, as fat cells die off and reveal your natural chin profile. It’s not uncommon for patients to see noticeable results after the first two to four treatment sessions.
Are There Any Side Effects?
You can expect to experience some minimal side effects after a Kybella procedure. Mild bruising, some redness and a little pain are the worst of it. The treatment areas may also feel somewhat hard, which is normal. Slight swelling may also develop, but most side effects – if any – typically subside within 48 hours.
Applying ice packs and compression goes a long way towards reducing any discomfort. After two to three weeks, all swelling will be gone, at which point you’ll start to see some visible improvement. Noticeable results can be expected within four to six weeks. Your results are considered permanent, as long as you maintain a stable, healthy weight.
